In the world of non-dairy, nut-based milks, almond is king. But there’s a new kid on the block! Cashew milk is creamier, sweeter, and much more versatile than almond milk. Silk just released their new Creamy Cashew milk in Canada, and I’ve set out to learn more about its health benefits and find different ways to use cashew milk.
Cashews are one of my favorite nuts, so cashew milk just sounds perfect. Silk’s Creamy Cashew milk is so rich and creamy, unlike any other non-dairy milk I’ve tried.
Cashew Milk Nutrition
Cashews are really a wonderfully nutritious nut!
- They’re high in B-vitamins
- They’re chock full of minerals like copper, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, and calcium.
- Cashews are high in monounsaturated fatty acids, mostly oleic acid, like the ones found in olive oil.
- Silk’s Creamy Cashew milk is also cholesterol free and has as much calcium as dairy milk, with only 60 calories per serving and 33% less calories than skim milk.
- It’s also a great source of vitamin D!
Silk’s Creamy Cashew milk, as well as their almond milk, does NOT contain carrageenan – a possible carcinogen. In fact, from what I’ve heard, Silk will be working on removing carrageenan from all of their milks! Also, all of Silk’s products are now Non-GMO Project Verified – yay! 🙂
How to Use Cashew Milk
Cashew milk is the creamiest of the non-dairy milks I’ve tried. Unlike most other nut milks, there is no “pulp” to strain out after the cashews are blended with water, so you’re getting the whole nut with all of its creamy deliciousness! And that creaminess really comes in handy when you’re looking for a non-dairy milk to use in your creamier recipes. Here are some simple ways to use cashew milk:
- Coffee/Tea – Add it to your coffee and tea for a great dairy-free creamer.
- Homemade Ice Cream – The creamy goodness of cashews really shines in this homemade ice cream recipe!
- Mashed Potatoes – Swap out the cream with cashew milk for some dairy-free mashed potatoes.
- Soups – Add it to soups to give them a thick, creamy texture.
- Cereal – Pour it over your cereal, granola, or oatmeal.
- Smoothies – Use it as the liquid base in your green smoothies.
- Salad Dressing – Add a splash to your salad dressing for a creamy effect.
