This is a guest post from Nancy at On the Home Front.
During the winter months when there is so much flu going around we try to take all precautions to stay healthy.
When my son was younger he would usually be the one to catch whatever flu bug was going around. A friend of mine shared this recipe for The Master Tonic and once we started using it even my son stayed healthy!
I’ve often thought it would also make a good seasoning for a Chinese dish. It is meant to be used to gargle with first and then you swallow it. If you use really hot peppers I swear you can feel the heat flowing through your blood vessels. I have shared this with several friends who now use it during the flu season as well.
I share it with you today exactly as it was shared with me. Beware when you chop fresh horseradish the fumes are quite powerful, and when you chop hot peppers DO NOT rub your eyes, and be sure to wear gloves! When you gargle and swallow with this tonic I swear you can feel fire coursing through your veins!
Master Tonic: A Natural Antibiotic
Pro biotic: antiviral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-parasitical.
Important note: As required by law, this information is provided by the right of free speech for educational purposes only, as natural or non-pharmaceutical remedies or therapies are in some nations today now often deemed illegal. We must therefore insist that if you are ill or have any disease or healthy problem that you contact a medical doctor immediately and ask their advice before trying any formulae, or suggestion given in this material.
This is a modern-day version of a recipe for an extremely powerful natural antibiotic originally used to fight infection like the Bubonic Plague that killed over a third of the world in the 1300’s.
Unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics it fights both bacteria and viruses, and is effective against pathogens that have developed immunity to existing drugs.

Master Tonic:
1 part fresh chopped garlic cloves (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral anti-parasitical)
1 part fresh chopped white onion, hottest onions available (similar properties to garlic)
1 part fresh gated ginger root (increases circulation to the extremities)
1 part fresh grated horseradish root (increases blood flow to the head)
1 part fresh chopped Cayenne Peppers, the hottest peppers available, i.e. Habanero, African Bird, or Scotch Bonnets etc. (A great blood stimulant)
1 bottle raw, unfiltered, unbleached, non-distilled apple cider vinegar
Fill a large glass jar ¾ of the way full with equal parts of the above peeled, fresh, chopped or grated herbs.
I use a ½ gallon glass-canning jar and add a cup of each of the above ingredients. Then fill up the rest of the jar to the top with raw, unfiltered, unbleached, non-distilled apple cider vinegar.
(It should look milky) shake jar at least once a day for two weeks, and then filter the mixture through a clean piece of cotton (an old t-shirt) or cheesecloth, then bottle and label. If possible make sure all the vegetables and herbs are fresh and organically grown if possible, use dried herbs only in an emergency.
This tonic stimulates maximum blood circulation while putting the best detoxifying herbs into the blood. It strengthens the good guys (probiotic) in your system that helps define against infection that broad-spectrum pharmaceutical antibiotics kill. This formula is not just for the sniffles; it has helped to turn around the deadliest of infections.
The dosage is ½ to 1 ounce, two or three times daily (1-2 Tbsps. a time), gargle and swallow. Don’t dilute with water. For ordinary infections, a dropperful taken 5-6 times a day will deal with most conditions. It can be used during pregnancies, is safe for children (use smaller doses) and as a food is completely non-toxic. Make up plenty; it does not need refrigeration and lasts indefinitely without any special conditions.
(I believe the friend that shared this with me got it from The University of Natural Healing, Dr. Richard Schultzs’ adaption of Dr. Christopher’s’ original anti-plague tonic)

This is the one I just made on the 11th and it’ll be ready on the 20th. It’s my first master tonic. Do you have any suggestions to give it to a 15mo old? Maybe with a small amount of honey?
Hey Jenny, I would definitely add a bit of honey or maybe try diluting it with some warm water also. That’s what I do with my 19 mo old.
My husband came home sick and we tried it straight, my curiosity got the best of me. He didn’t want to try it but did after me coaxing him and ended up liking it! I tried it and it was so hot it burned going down, made my nose run, and made my ears tickle from the heat! Lol, it was quite the experience. However, I can absolutely see that it would help cure colds! Thanks for the response, I’ll try honey.
On a side note, we put a tablespoon over a cut up hard boiled egg with some added salt and it was SO good! I could eat that every day, it was that good to me! 🙂
Thanks again for this!
ALERT: Not sure what the risks are but I know you are not supposed to give babies Honey.
Yeah, there is the risk of botulism, but only for babies younger than 1 year old.

Can this be used daily when not ill as a nutritional supplement?
I don’t see why not, Teresa. My fire cider recipe which is very similar to this one, is actually meant to boost immunity to prevent you even getting sick in the first place.

What if I’m already sick? -a pretty severe sore throat & runny nose? Do I just have to wait for two weeks while the Master Tonic ‘ferments’?
I hope you’re not still felling sick! I definitely wouldn’t wait the 2 weeks for this, and would treat it right away. There are some ideas in these posts for you, in case you’re still under the weather:

I LOVE EarthClinic! 🙂

I am just making this for the first time – been meaning to for a while! I have a friend who makes this and just adds more ACV to her veggies/herbs… Does anyone else do this? It seems to me they would lose potency over time. If so, how many times to you add ACV. Thanks! Can’t wait for my batch to be ready:)))
Hmm, that does sound like it would lose potency over time, but I could see maybe doing a second batch with the veggies/herbs. Interesting idea… 🙂

Hello, awesome health tonic. Would this help with a virus that is already in stomach? Like, to help flush it out without need for medication.

This is great but I doubt I’d survive the treatment.

i can’t find fresh horseradish. Can I use the canned horseradish?
Most grocery stores will order it for you. I had to special order it. It’s not a very popular item around here.

I would be so very grateful for a response. I cannot find cayenne peppers anywhere. Can i substitute a different pepper or cayenne powder? If i can sub the cayenne powder, how much would you recommend i use if i am using 1 cup of all other ingredients?
Thank you so much!!
Hi Alexis,
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. Yes, you can use any hot peppers you can find! Jalapeños are usually easy to find, so those will work as well. If all else fails, you can use cayenne powder, but it will be about 1/4 to 1/3 of what you would use if it was fresh. Hope that helps!
Thank you so very much for the response!! Making this today!

This is a lot like fire cider without the turmeric, honey and lemon.

DO YOU HAVE TO FILTER THE HERBS OUT ,OR COULD THEY BE LEFT IN & USED AS A RELISH FOR FOOD DISHES?
You can definitely use them as a relish!

Hello my name is Dominick and I came across the tonic while searching out natural antibiotics. I’ve had allergic reactions the last two times I’ve taken antibiotics. Anyways I have a tooth infection and I really don’t want to take antibiotics again and can’t afford a trip to the dentist at the moment so I made the tonic today. I saw on another site that if you couldn’t wait the two weeks you could blend everything together and take it Right away… My question is have you heard of this tonic healing tooth infections at all? Sorry for the long comment.
I actually have not heard that before, but would love to dig deeper! Hope you’re feeling better soon!

What is the best way to store it after its done fermenting and how long should it be kept for?
Store in a cool, dry place (or the fridge, if you have to), and it should keep for well over a year, if not more!

Hi!
I’m going to try this wellness recipe…and the ACV tea for mornings. I have another problem with a
Yeast Infection. Please…if someone knows of a sure fire why to get rid of it, let me know. I suffer from
Hypoparathyroidism or Hashimoto’s Disease, renal failure, “sweating”, tinnitus, and vision problems.
I have had to give-up driving. So, please Help!
Sincerely yours,
Mae
Colloidal silver will work for the yeast overgrowth. You can douche with it and drink it. We use it for everything and it works great. It is expensive but you can make it yourself, if interested instructions are on the Internet.

I’ve been using this tonic for three weeks now to boost my immune system ( I always seem to get sick after family holiday gatherings). As an extra bonus, I’ve lost 8 pounds and I haven’t done a thing different besides taking 2 tablespoons of tonic a day. Thanks for sharing the recipe! 😊
That sounds awesome, Sherrie – way to go!

I so enjoyed this above entire article on the Master Tonic — the recipe, it’s uses, and just wonderful information all about it. I tried to print it but was unable to. I wanted to send this article to those I know who don’t have computers — especially seniors who would love to have this information. Is there some way I can print this whole article as it is obviously blocked from printing? Thank you very much for your prompt response.
