I’m always on the lookout for sustainable, reusable products to replace their disposable counterparts around the home. Bambu home products carries a vast line of eco-friendly, sustainable, non-toxic products for everything from cooking and dining, to gardening and kids products.
Bambu home products contacted me to review some of their sustainable products, and of course I agreed because I have a minor obsession with reusable products. 🙂 Bambu has an interesting story: the company was born in Portland, Oregon, but the founders actually live in China where all of their products are made by local woodworkers, weavers, and stitchers with locally-sourced, renewable, recyclable, or reclaimed materials. All of their products come right from nature and are crafted in a way that supports sustainable business practices.
Bambu Home Products Review
Bambu sent me a nice review package which contained their bamboo straws, their hemp denim apron, and the hemp denim baby bib.
I received six straws in different sizes, along with a handy cleaning brush. I was most excited to try the straws since I’ve already been happily using glass straws for a couple of years. I’ve heard of stainless steel straws, but never even thought of making straws out of bamboo! These straws are just perfect for my 3 year old because I’m always nervous about giving him a glass straw for his smoothies. He loves that he has his own little bamboo straw now, and I love that it’s practically indestructible. I also feel way more comfortable taking these along with us to restaurants and when we’re traveling because I know they’ll make it back home in one piece.
The straws are simply made of bamboo – no inks, no dyes, just natural bamboo in all its glory. They’re also completely biodegradable, so if you ever do need to toss them they’ll just go right back into the ground – how awesome is that?!
The apron is made of a hemp/organic cotton blend. It’s super soft and very durable, so I know it’ll last a long time. I love the extra large pockets on the front to hold tools like cooking spoons, a towel, or even my phone. I love that the neck strap is adjustable, since I’m always having to tie up the neck strap on other aprons. I’m a big supporter of anything made with hemp because of its sustainability as a building material. It’s 100% renewable and doesn’t require pesticides or fertilizers to grow. I also just learned that hemp is naturally anti-microbial and mildew resistant which makes it perfect for using in the kitchen!
The denim baby bib is also made of a hemp/organic cotton blend, and is just too adorable. It’s also very soft and durable, and it comes clean the wash very easily. The bib is reversible, has a velcro closure, and is embroidered with a cuttle little bee family on the front. It’s a great size for my 9 month old. The only that would make this bib even better is if it had a wide pocket along the bottom to catch any fallen food; our little Peanut is notorious for spilling bits of food while she eats, and it’s so helpful to have the pocket down there to catch it all in one place.
If you’re looking to replace some of the products in your home with sustainable products made from renewable resources, you’ve got to check out Bambu home products. I never knew bamboo straws even existed. That is so cool. I always have straws in my purse for my toddler for going out to eat. These would be great. I agree, I would not want to give her a glass one. Great find!
